Melissa Dionne Fennell was born on
September 3rd in Norfolk, Virginia and was raised across
the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth. Melissa attended public
school and graduated with Honors from I.C. Norcom High School. She continued her education
by attending North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North
Carolina and majored in Biological Business Management with a minor
in Economics. Melissa
was initiated into the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc. in 1999 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science
degree in 2001. She
re-located to Charlotte, North Carolina to continue her education
and began attending Pfeiffer University, of Salisbury, North
Carolina, for a Master’s degree in Health Administration. Melissa graduated in 2004
but it was during her employment Melissa realized she enjoyed
analyzing and calculating numbers; therefore, she returned to
Pfeiffer University and acquired a second Master’s degree in
Business Administration in 2007.
Melissa continues to work in health administration and tries
to draw attention to the millions of Americans who do not receive
proper health care or who do not have health insurance. She has developed the
platform, Healthcare for the Actively-Aging, or HAA, which draws
attention to the setbacks of the Medicare and Medicaid systems and
the lack of healthcare for veterans. She describes
“actively-aging” as a verb for all living creatures. Melissa states, “as long as
you are breathing, you are actively-aging”.
Melissa enjoys reading, cooking,
dancing and choreography, modeling, racquetball, tennis, softball,
rollerblading, weight training, yoga, watching sports, and traveling
to foreign lands. She
believes living a healthy life is taking care of your mind, body,
and spirit! Melissa
often recites the mantra, “Strength, Courage, and Wisdom” and feels
her creator is the source behind all of her
accomplishments.

adornment be merely outward arranging the hair, wearing gold or
putting on fine apparel rather let it be the hidden person of the
